Leistungszentrum Photonik
Fraunhofer High Performance Center Photonics

As an competitive centre of excellence in the field of photonics, the Fraunhofer High Performance Center Photonics (“Leistungszentrum Photonik”) aims to foster the development of new light technologies by combining excellent basic and application-oriented research and innovative ideas. Controlling light from its generation and manipulation to its application constitutes the main focus of the centre which is a joint initiative of Friedrich Schiller University, the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Optics and Precision Engineering, the local Leibniz institutes HKI and IPHT and the Helmholtz Institute Jena.

Core topics of the centre are micro- and nanooptic, micro-fluidic, smart sensors, projection and imaging systems of the next generation, optical instrumentation from EUV-MIR, fiber lasers and their applications and high dynamic sensors as well. Relevant applications will include solutions for manufacturing, the information and communication industry, automotive and aerospace sectors as well as health and environment.

Partners from industry support the project with more than 10 millions of Euros, the Free State of Thuringia and the Fraunhofer Gesellschaft contributed 8 millions of Euro and 2.4 millions of Euros respectively.
